The majority of water damages are caused by a burst of pressurized water lines.
Water leaks can cause damage to properties. It is important to know what to do when faced with such incidents. Here are water damage emergency tips to help you avoid escalation of such an incident.
- Turn off the electricity
Ensure you follow safety measures by turning off all electrical appliances in the house or office. To prevent electric shock, turn off the circuit breakers and unplug all devices. Take all electrical devices away from the reach of the water. Take your children and pets away from the reach of water also.
- Stop the flow from the source
The majority of water damages are caused by a burst of pressurized water lines. The first thing to do during a burst is to close the inlet valve, immediately stopping the flow before the damage worsens.
In the case of a natural disaster like a flood that is impossible to stop, it is best to divert the water away from your property. This is not an easy task especially when the water comes from the backed-up sewer pipes.
- Take out your possessions
Take out all valuable things, your documents, furniture, TV and other appliances, mattresses, clothes, shoes, carpets, and the rest. If you have a very limited time, make sure you take all electrical appliances and furniture out as quickly as possible.
